Andrew Smith is an award winning singer-songwriter, a captivating tap-style guitarist and is one of the few Canadians to have won the prestigious Kerrville Newfolk Songwriting Competition in the USA. His concerts reflect influences as diverse as Django Rheinhart, Bruce Cockburn, Dave Brubeck and James Taylor. He performs a mix of original and classic tunes that keep audiences guessing.
His concerts have been described as “a delightful collision of folk and jazz”. At his concerts it’s not uncommon to hear gasps and murmurs from the audience when he plays tap-style with the guitar on his lap facing up, or thumbing a high energy funk tune that turns the acoustic guitar into a drum. The Saxony Times called his performance at the Dresden International Guitar Festival “world class!”.
