What you get at an Andrew Smith concert is more than the sound of a skilled musician; you get a view into the heart, passion and journey of a lifelong artist.

Andrew Smith has explored many styles over the years - diving into rabbit holes of folk, country, tap-style instrumental guitar music and traditional jazz. He always emerges from these musical studies with a new spin on familiar genres.

Now a seasoned musician, he incorporates these styles and sounds into his concerts in a way that surprises and delights audiences. His own songs and stories come from the heart and reveal his life journey in deeply personal ways. Andrew is one of the few Canadians to have won the prestigious Newfolk songwriter contest in the USA. He also tips his hat to his musical heros Django Rheinhart, Bruce Cockburn, Dave Brubeck and James Taylor with unique arrangements of classics.

At his concerts it’s not uncommon to hear gasps and murmurs from the audience when he plays tap-style with the guitar on his lap facing up, or thumbing a high energy funk tune that turns the acoustic guitar into a drum.

Andrew won the KERRVILLE NEW FOLK SONGWRITING COMPETITION on the strength of his songs 'Holes in the Night Sky' and 'Rite of Passage'

'Rite of Passage' received Honourable Mention at the MID ATLANTIC SONG CONTEST, and was short-listed for the INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING CONTEST.

'Do You Like It?' received Honourable Mention at the 2007 SINGER-SONGWRITER AWARDS.

Andrew's solo instrumental CD 'escape velocity' won him the OKANAGAN INSTRUMENTALIST OF THE YEAR award and received two nominations from 'JUST PLAIN FOLKS' MUSIC AWARDS, and 'The Pilgrimage' was short-listed for the INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING CONTEST.
